The FISM World Championships of Magic is today the most prestigious competition for magicians . This event , held every three years , is the beating heart of FISM ( Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques ), and winning a prize or the Grand Prix represents the highest recognition for a professional magician , comparable to an athlete winning an Olympic medal .

As I was saying , today the World Championship of Magic is the heart of the FISM Congress , but it is interesting to note that it hasn ' t always been this way . Originally , the founders ’ goal was not to organize competitions , but rather to unite magic clubs from all over the world , creating a central organization to coordinate activities , promote , and develop the art of magic .

It was only in 2003 that the Statutes were updated , establishing that the main tool for achieving these objectives would be the organization of the World Championship of Magic . A few years later , the mission was expanded to also include encouraging the organization of Continental Magic Championships .
