I imagine you’ re pretty handy around the house.
So, I’ m in this new house, and the inspector found several issues while we went through the inspection. The sellers were unwilling to make the repairs and offered a price reduction. I accepted, and on the first day, I fixed nearly everything myself, including minor leaks and an ungrounded electrical outlet. I even corrected some shoddy work done by the contractors. I used to help my father with home remodeling projects when I was younger, so I’ m comfortable with this kind of work. I’ m comfortable taking stuff apart and confident I can put it back together.

" What I do isn’ t magic; it’ s a demonstration of skill for which the audience has no explanation."
As a magician, do you share your crafting and fixing side with audiences?
My show is not about the things I’ ve built, like Mario The Maker; it’ s about sleight of hand and trying to create strong magic. I enjoy difficult sleight-of-hand and delving into unusual theories, like multiple realities. My act includes a duck smoking a cigarette and time travel— playful chaos. Audiences seem to like it.
That’ s a bit of an understatement. Some venues have said,“ We’ ve never had reactions like when Erik Tait performed. We cannot wait to have him back.”
I’ m a popular performer at various venues, and the positive feedback from staff and audiences is gratifying. I appreciate that people like my magic. I don’ t quite understand why. My magic is a personal exploration, but people seem to like my contributions to the conversation, which is our art form. It’ s pretty humbling, to be honest.
