In Paris with Carmelo Cacciato and Maxence Vire
My attitude about a lecture is that it should be fun, people get to see examples of real-world material, it makes you think, inspires, and everybody goes away with new knowledge. I treat each lecture as a full evening show – which means I give 110 %. The energy I put into each one is as much as I would put into a performance. I engage my audience and share a life-times worth of knowledge, not just magic tricks.
A big part of my lecture was using music in your act and how to utilize it in a way that enhances the magic. I had two examples from my Charlie Chaplin act that really solidified this point. With a degree in music, I am keenly aware of the music I use and how I go about creating routines with the right piece. Another key point I emphasized is breathing throughout your act. In all my years of magic I’ ve never heard anybody else speak on this topic. Breathing during your routine will enhance the performance, let the magic sink in with your audience and elevate your presentation in ways you never imagined. I will write up an essay on this one day for VANISH magazine, but it is very important.
