Custom Voice Commands
What ’ s the best remote ? None . And there ’ s nothing more natural than speaking during our performances , so , with this in mind , I dove into the world of vocal commands and how they can work for my needs . At first , I was under the impression that I would have to record myself speaking out each command with hopes that it would properly be integrated into the system and perform as desired .
Let me assure you that it ’ s way simpler than that ! It ’ s a question of you typing in the exact prompt you want to use . For example , when I want to know the position of a card in the stack , I simply name its value , let ’ s say ‘ King of Hearts ’, so the prompt I need to write for the custom voice command is ‘ King of Hearts ’! Plain and simple . Once these words are spoken , either by me or the participant , yes , even the participant can trigger your peek , the command will execute whatever we designated to it , in this case , our Shortcuts .
Now , unfortunately , it ’ s not currently possible to create a library or folder of specific commands , so they are all found in the same répertoire for now . Hopefully , this is something Apple will address in the future , but for now , we will still have the capacity to move forward with our Taylor made project . Another nice thing would be to have the option to export the commands to share them with the Shortcuts in a bundle ! Fingers crossed for Apple Santa !
This functionality can be found in the iPhone settings , within the accessibility panel , and oddly enough , in the Physical and Motor section . I ’ m guessing that the logic of placing this here is that these commands can replace touching the device to accomplish certain tasks . If the option of having an audio peek of this same Shortcut notification is of interest , this will be accomplished using the VoiceOver function found in the Vision panel . What this does is simply break down the screen into blocks of information such as clock , apps , and text , and will vocally speak what ’ s in the currently selected box . In our case , we won ’ t even need to select a box to speak since when the notification pops up , it generates a box that will systematically prompt the spoken audio function ! Brilliant !
