FLYING ON A JET PLANE
The top tier corporate magicians are few and far between. Those at the
pinnacle can command up to $10,000 a performance and be flown to their
gig in a private jet by their client. They don't have to perform every week to
make a living, one or two shows a month is all they need at that level. The
secret to this type of gig is not just the show, it goes far deeper and has to
do with attitude, style and stage deportment. There is an old saying,”dress
for success," which absolutely applies to this category of performance.
Nobody knows more about this than our feature story Eric Bedard. He's
been a top tier corporate entertainer longer than many of our readers have
been alive. He's also flown under the radar because he's one of those magi-
cians who is out there working. We were very fortunate to convince Eric
that his story was worth sharing and the material on his new double DVD
set, PACK SMALL PLAY BIG is, in our opinion, filled with pure gold informa-
tion!! If you don't know Eric, this is a wonderful introduction about who
he is and how he continues to work for A-list celebrities and entertain at
top corporate gigs around the world. Hopefully it will inspire you to push
yourself to the next level. There is nobody I know who has more passion
and love for our craft than Eric, and that certainly comes across in every-
thing he does.
I'd also like to mention Jeff Christensen's column about the Bolivia Magic
Club. It is an incredibly story featuring The Bolivian Academy of Magic and
Illusionism which was founded in April 2009 by Milton Flores Marquez.
His vision is to raise the quality of magic in his country and to show the
world the magic acts arising from Bolivia. Please make a point of reading
the story, and if you can help out by visiting their GoFundMe page – the
money goes to helping the children continue their magic classes and assist
nurturing the art of magic in that country – it would be amazing. This is
something we can all do as a global community to help those who don't
have as much as we do and to help spread passion for magic.
This past month we lost two giants of magic …
Don Wayne was an incredible magic/illusion inventor who helped anybody
who would ask. He was a pure genius consultant/collaborator with David
Copperfield. Social Media was flooded with people saying how much he
helped and inspired them. A huge loss to our magic community.
I remember General Grant from my youth, he influenced numerous
magicians with his incredible dove productions, innovative methods and
effects.
Thanks to their generosity and creativity their work will live forever and
continue to inspire future generations. These two gentlemen helped move
magic forward creating a brighter future.
