As an entertainer and schoolteacher , I particularly appreciated Nathan ’ s attention to each routine ’ s procedure . Many magicians , me included , rush to the interesting “ stuff ” in a magic trick . Nathan has invested enormous thought over countless performances into the mundane aspects of each routine . Simple moments like bringing up a spectator or having something examined all have extra lines or presentational nuances in Nathan ’ s show . Sometimes it was a joke . Sometimes it was a quick thought to recapture their attention or remind them of the premise . The result is the complete absence of dead time . Nathan and I became fast friends during his residency in Maui . I suspect part of the reason is that we share a similar journey in magic . Like Nathan , I remember the specific moment I became hooked on the art of sleight-of-hand and the performance of magic . We both pursued mentors throughout our careers . And we both started performing in unusual venues to gain experience .
