Vanish- Could you talk about your creative process with the Diamond illusion? Peter- First, I want to say that creating an illusion and getting inspired are two very different things. Often, inspiration starts with a request from a client. But with the Diamond Illusion, I already had the idea myself. I worked on it and believed in it. The client didn’ t take it, so I decided to create it for myself. That is how the Diamond Illusion began.
Another request came from Kenneth Feld and his daughter Nicole, who came to Puerto Rico with Siegfried and Roy to see my flying act. The producer wanted me for his circus production and creative team. He was very kind, and it was a big honor. But in the end, we did not collaborate. I had to consider many things that are special in the circus world, and something technical simply didn’ t fit. It was a great idea, but I couldn’ t solve certain details at that time. Later, I thought about it again, changed the shape, and opened new possibilities. That allowed me to create a whole act around it and make it simpler.
Recently, I presented the Diamond Illusion at the International Circus Festival of Montecarlo. I also performed the unicycle illusion, my signature manipulation acts Magic-Hands, and some comedy magic like the Super Man act, among others. It was great to perform so many acts surrounded 360 ° by the audience. This is truly my signature when creating illusions that they can be performed surrounded.
