V9K1E6 CANADA WO WO RD RD FROM THE EDITOR CITIZEN OF THE WORLD Charlie Chaplin once said "I am a citizen of the world," which is how I have always perceived myself. I’ve travelled to 124 countries and observed the occupants on their own turf. My beliefs are not formed by reading Social Media or listening to others with no life experience other than what they’ve read online, but rather from real-world involvement, interacting with a wide range of people from all walks of life. I realized everybody has a story and I enjoy taking time out to listen to those tales wherever I travel. I find it quite surprising how many magi out there have followed a similar path, or are about to embark on a familiar journey in the world of magic. In this issue we get to listen to the voices of artists who would have been unheard in the past and to feel their pain. Hopefully we will all work together to make a change. From day one I structured VANISH as a vehicle for magicians to share their stories. I often look for people outside of the normal 'magic' realm, and have narratives from almost every race, culture and country in the world. The important thing is THE STORY. VANISH provides people a platform to share their journey with others. I would like to personally thank Kevin Bethea for his passionate hard work suggesting, contacting and coordinating with all the contributors for the Black Lives Matter article. I am also extremely proud to highlight Sarah Fields in this issue as our double feature story, an amazing article you will thoroughly enjoy. This happens to be a family edition, as Felicity offers a heartfelt article in her regular column, A Squib in The World, about Black Lives Matter. Vanish continues its series of articles on magic during the COVID period with an amazing Drive-In show in Germany, and a “How To Produce An Online Show for less than $200”. There have been two types of performers during these hard times, those, who sit on Social Media complaining they don't like 'On-Line shows', and others who showed how innovative and adaptable they are by actually giving it a go, realizing they can continue to make a living performing. As online shows begin to slow down, because people start to get out, the smart ones have a new skill and discovered ways to continue using their online magic long after the pandemic dissipates. I have a very good friend who isn't performing online shows BUT is using online shows to book work. It's quite possibly the best use of the entire virtual trend I’ve heard. VANISH TV I am delighted to announce a new part of VANISH starting in early July. Once a month I will host a 30 minute interactive TV magazine style show highlighting the current edition of VANISH. I will share some photos, videos, etc. that did not make it into the articles. I will also list this months Top 10 Magic Tricks from the reviews, PLUS show you the two Product Highlights. There will be Magic News, guests and prizes.
