LEGENDS GONE ...

Magic has been hit hard this past month with the loss of master craftsman Joe Porper , who created some of the most incredible and intricate props from Linking Finger Rings to Locking Rings and stunning magic wands . We also lost the greatest coin magician of our time David Roth . David ' s magic influenced a whole new wave of close-up magic and his coin work is unparalleled . David ' s magic will live on with anybody who reads his work or studies his DVDs and we have a lot to thank him for .
The loss of arguably the greatest illusion team in history with the passing of Siegfried Fischbacher , months after the death of his partner Roy Horn . Siegried and Roy entertained the world and changed the way people viewed a magic show and were a huge influence on Las Vegas .
Finally , last week we lost Mark Wilson who again influenced more magicians in the USA than any other magician . As a tribute to Mark I released a SPECIAL EDITION of the two issues of VANISH we did back in 2013 written by Nick Lewin with photographs supplied by Chipper Lowell and Greg Wilson . As subscribers you will have access to that special edition so be sure to read it .
I am very honored to have two of my favorite magicians in VANISH this month . Paul Gertner as a contributer and Boris Wild as the cover story . Thank you to Paul who interviewed and wrote the article on Boris and for his tribute to David Roth . You have made this issue very special and we all thank you for it .
Perhaps the biggest surprise for me was a call from Ben Robinson . He told me he had a story that he thought I would like . It wasn ' t until it arrived that I just sat there with my mouth open . He had managed to get an interview with my all time hero Dan Kamin . As you may know I perform as Charlie Chaplin , I ' ve been doing my act for over thirty years . The ONE person whose book helped me with the finesse was Dan Kamin . Dan taught Robert Downey Jr . how to be Chaplin in the movie , and he also was the consultant for the movie Benny and Joon showing Johnny Depp how to be Keaton-esque . For magicians this would be like meeting Dai Vernon as I consider Dan to the master on all things Chaplin . Dan has a magic background and together Ben and Dan discuss the subject of Lost Art .
I am also pleased to share with you a new cartoon series by Pierre Hamon and Gus . I fell in love with the cartoon style and know you will enjoy following the adventures of Pokkus .
Finally I would like you please to look at the advert on page 22 . It is a GoFundMe to help Steve Brookes who is the creator and overseer of The Magic Cafe . Steve has put his life in to the cafe and now his and his wife ' s lives are on the line . His wife has been in hospital for over three months and her memory and health fading , and not long after Steve suffered a massive heart attack . His nieces started a Gofundme because they seriously need our help . Steve has done so much for magic and anything you can give to help will be most appreciated .
