" If destiny had given me an advance notice that I would become a magician , I would have shunned the notion ,” admits the Chicago-based performer , who ’ s whole world shifted when he happened upon a little storefront called Chuck ’ s House of Magic . “ My curiosity compelled me to explore this unique shop and magic claimed me like a mysterious calling . I explored it like love for the first time .”
On that fateful day , Magicien took home his first set of instructional materials and a few good tricks . Then he showed his friends , family and coworkers what he was learning , and they kept wanting more . It wasn ’ t long before Magicien was obsessed . “ I took every opportunity to perform for friends and family , and I also spent countless hours practicing in front of a mirror ,” he recalls .
Magic had not only captured his heart and imagination , but it also paralleled with his passion for entertaining audiences . “ My original dream was to become a musician , and I became that ,” explains Magicien , who received his first guitar at age 12 . “ My love for words , poetry and all things nostalgic and romantic allowed me to compile a musical diary of 263 songs . But my years as a musician morphed into the world of magic and I suddenly found myself immersed .”
Magicien admits , however , that he didn ’ t exactly immerse himself in the basics . “ I would not recommend this approach for any aspiring magician starting out ,” he chuckles . “ But I was so excited about magic that when I first started , I actually got a level five DVD that demonstrated advanced card tricks . I figured , ‘ Wow , if I get this , then I ' ll be able to do those tricks I saw that magician perform on TV !’
“ So I took it home and I just really worked hard , day after day , on these advanced tricks ,” he continues . “ After about four
