V9K1E6 CANADA I am very excited this month to feature Belinda Sinclair on the cover. We have been trying to get her story for a few years now and it finally happened. Belinda produces and has been performing in one of the most successful intimate shows in New York City. We are delighted to share her journey within these pages. I have mentioned in the past that the modern magician/entertainer needs to look at different performance venues, and in many cases create their own market. Belinda has done this, continues to do so, and succeeds. My sincere thanks to Hal Meyers who helped make this happen. Julie Eng takes us on a walk-through of an incredible art exhibition in Toronto, Canada featuring some amazing posters from magic’s history. This presentation is happening right now until May at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) which is one of the largest art museums in North America. If you find yourself in Toronto be sure to head over to this show. Felicity Fields continues her column called A Squib In The World. We receive a tremendous amount of positive feed back from her articles and I’m thrilled about her future pieces. In this edition Felicity looks at the inclusion of people in the world of magic. I don’t want to reveal everything, however, my favorite part leaves the reader thinking about their own lives and performances, and the changes we can make to improve our craft to help it move forward. I love this type of article and am thrilled to offer it to our VANISH magazine readers. The Blackpool Magic Convention has come and gone. With several thousand magicians in attendance it seems to get bigger and better each year. From what I heard you can spend your entire time at the Dealer’s Halls and still not see it all. Congratulations to all those who put on this incredible gathering, which is without a doubt the biggest in the world outside of FISM. On a sadder note the Coronavirus is starting to hit the entertainment industry. We received word a memo went out last week to all cruise acts and agents from various lines stating that anyone who has travelled through, or been to the affected countries in the past two months will have their contracts cancelled. I have been in contact with one of the acts quarantined on a ship and we are holding off printing their story until they get the go-ahead from their agent and the cruise line. As we are all aware, it’s ongoing and may get worse before it gets better. I hope you all stay safe on your travels, wherever and whenever perform. Paul Romhany EDITOR-IN-CHIEF MARCH | 2020 7
