BLOOD WRITING
S Stigmata

Here is an idea that would have appealed much to the late Tony Andruzzi , shadowy master of the bizarre and macabre , yet it works well for mentalists .
Banachek describes it as “ blood writing ”. He ran across the concept in a medical magazine .
Use it to reveal a simple geometric design , initials , or the abbreviated identity of a playing card . ( 3C , KH , 4D .)
For example , you might explain , “ Stigmata are the supernatural appearance of wounds or markings on the bodies of mystics .
“ I believe many may be explained by the projected , sometimes unconscious , powers of the mind . Let me demonstrate .” Turn you back to the spectator , asking him to peek at the symbol he selected but to show it to no one else . When the spectator acknowledges that he has done so , you turn back ; push up your sleeve of your shirt to show your arm .
The technique won ’ t work for everyone , and depends upon your age , condition and skin texture , Shaw says .
In showing the five ESP symbols , position the star and wavy lines at the top and bottom of the packet , where they are least likely to be chosen .
They are more difficult to easily replicate . Then , remember the sequence of the other three symbols , so you can identify which is selected .
Knowing the selected symbol , you merely secretly draw it on your forearm , pushing your thumb up under your sleeve .
Use your sharpened thumbnail or a scarab mounted with a metal stylus instead of lead .
Don ’ t scratch or break the skin ; the scraping action does the work .
The mark won ’ t appear immediately and may be delayed by crooking your elbow to keep your hand higher than your forearm till ready , then lower you hand . ---- Since that writing , my good friend Wayne Houchin independently came up with the same concept . Wayne streamlined the effect so to make it easier to write a number . Wayne forces a seven on a spectator from a deck of cards . While they shuffle the card back into the deck he turns his back , giving him time to make the mark . Now he turns around .
Notes : If the mark does not appear fast enough , have the spectator take their forefinger and rub the area bringing blood to the surface and causing the image to appear faster .
“ Concentrate on the symbol ,” you command the spectator , indicating the inside of your forearm .
As the spectator concentrates , a red triangle slowly takes shape on your forearm . Or a square or a circle , the symbol being thought of by the spectator .
