Now reach over and openly place your right index finger inside the ring . If it is not a tight fit , keep your finger to the right inside section of the ring , this way any open space in the ring will not be able to be seen by the spectator on stage as your hand and finger will cover this open space on the left side of your finger . Figure 4 ,
Fig . 4
Now have the first spectator call out stop as you move the ring down the page . Next do the same with second spectator only move your hand from the left of the page to the right . Next take your thumb and middle finger of the same hand and take a hold of the ring . It should look as if you are holding the ring in place on the page ; in reality you are making sure the text lines up perfectly prior to you removing your finger . When you do this lift your index finger slightly and rearrange the ring this way your index finger will not accidentally press down and accidentally remove the gimmicked piece . When ready , remove your finger to reveal the isolated area . Figure 5 .
Next ask the spectator to state “ out loud any large word that has been selected near the center of the ring .” They will have to choose your force word , as it is the only large one there . There are a few things here that will make sure they do choose this word . One , you tell them to choose a word near the center , and this word is almost dead center , and two you ask them to choose any large word . This is the only full large word in the ring . Do not ask them to “ choose ” as this makes them feel like they have a free choice of any word . You will make it seem it was this way in a minute but only after they choose a word do you define the non limits of the choice . Keep your limits in place till after the word is chosen .
After the word is selected then point out there were many other words in the ring , point out some of the shorter words then state , “ and over here we have the word ( state one of the half words for instance it might say ossible , and you state it says impossible , or it might be something like chologist and you can point it out as Psychologist . To the audience it will appear that the spectator had a large selection of large words , yet nothing sounds amiss to the spectator on stage . All seems fair .
All that remains is to have the spectator open his / her prediction to show it matches . Now as the spectator goes back to his or her seat , you can pick up the ring and put it back upon your finger . The finger will press the extra gimmick paper into our right hand leaving the ring clean on your finger . Ditch the extra piece . Figure 6 .
If you do not want to end clean this way and you have the extra ring in your pocket you can pick up the gimmicked ring , go in your pocket and simply remove the other ring . You can do this as the spectator removes the prediction . If using this latter method , then you will want to close the book as you pick up the ring to prevent the spectator looking down at the page later to see the word “ London ” is not on the page .
Fig . 5
Have the spectator on stage look into the ring and ask if there are a few words within . They will have to say yes .
