STRONGER THAN MEN

The appearance of mesmerism ( animal magnetism ) in 1773 had an impact on the show ’ s stages and many magicians engaged this practice claiming to have psychic and physical powers .
A century later , women engaged in " mesmeric sessions " and " hypnotics séances " such as : Miss Annie De Montford who gave performances from 1871 to 1882 , Madame G . Card , Annie Abbott ( Dixie Annie Haygood , 1861-1915 ) and Georgia Wonder ( Lulu Hurst , 1869-1950 ) who claimed to possess Herculean strength by challenging groups of men .
