In the first half of the nineteenth century , a tiny part of women produced on European stages like Marie-Anne Joannique Fondard , Signora Girardelli and Caroline Bernhardt . The most famous is Julie Grandsart-Courtois ( 1813- 1880 ).
The second part of the nineteenth century saw the public ’ s perception towards women shift and many women practiced magic as amateurs . Female magicians alone on stage , made a timid appearance in certain fairground theaters , but without any real success or future ( Alphonsina , Corysande , Judita Rossi , Violetta di Parma , Nella Davenport , Mlle Méala , Carolina , Mlle Orlowska ), Pauline Schmidt ( 1865-1944 ) was a successful headlining Danish magician and a well known and appreciated artist in Sweden and Finland during the 1880 ' s . She had a touring show long before Adelaide .
Jennie Anderson ( around 1875 ) was a professional magician who toured throughout New Zealand with her large illusion show . unfortunately they have long been forgotten . Most of these women married and stopped performing at the height of their careers . It sad that they have been forgotten in magic history ...

Mademoiselle Benita Anguinet ( 1819-1887 ) , the " first physicist in France ", was a particular figure who toured France from 1844 . She worked at the Théâtre du Pré-Catelan in the Bois de Boulogne in 1856 . Mademoiselle Benita Anguinet acquired the Théâtre Voyageur , thus providing her , her own stage . From 1869 to 1870 , she toured Portugal and Spain and then ended her career .
Madame MacAllister ( 1855-1860 ' s ) billed as " the only lady magician in the world ".
Okita ( Julia Ferret De Vere , 1852-1916 ) was touring with her extremely successful illusion show in 1877 .
