So you want to impress your friends or , even better , pull off a publicity stunt that will get people talking ? Demonstrating hypnosis can be daunting , especially when dealing with participants who might resist the induction phase .

Of course , there are tried and tested methods to bypass critical thinking , but for our demonstration , we ’ re going to scale things up a notch and seemingly control the mind of a random animal in a natural environment . Like anything in the realm of illusions — mental or otherwise — seeing is believing . With this in mind , we want a bulletproof strategy that offers the highest visual impact while allowing us nearly complete control over how the demonstration unfolds . How does one imagine such a ploy ?

Why dream up such a scenario ? Well … In my case , it was a combination of things : some effects I ’ d read about , some I ’ d seen , and my own creative thinking that filled the gaps .

I tend to gravitate toward Derren Brown ’ s style since I find his effects captivating . He has the ability to weave together multiple methods to create an immersive experience in which participants and audiences lose themselves in the pure mystery of the moment .

I also discovered that Derren has a passion for taxidermy , with a beautiful collection of specimens of all kinds — not to mention some hyper-realistic body part replicas , which can be useful when a spare hand is needed !
