Vanish Magic Magazine 127 | SECRET SAUCE : Rico de la Vega “ Impact Theory ”

hot tub. The best magic we created—the bold, innovative ideas we were most proud of—never made it to air. Instead, the network chose safe, forgettable tricks that didn’t reflect who we were. They aired “knock-knock” effects and awkward story arcs that completely missed the mark. That show landed us on the TV show Ellen and gave countless opportunities to us all. I’m forever grateful.

Network issues aside, the journey itself was unforgettable. Sharing this experience with my brothers was a gift. Even though I was always the butt of the joke as the youngest in the group my time in bands had taught me how to work in a team, how to listen, and how to make sure everyone felt valued. But as I reflected on the experience, it became clear that working as a group, wasn’t always easy for everyone. Maybe it was harder for some of my teammates to collaborate on a vision that wasn’t just their own. (see also raging ego and violent insecurity comment earlier)

Maybe the world didn’t get to see the real Big Trick Energy ( maybe the big trick was the energy we got from it as performers), but that doesn’t mean the story is over. What we created was different, bold, and raw—a vision that still deserves its moment in the spotlight. For the hundreds of people who always asked us : when is season 2 coming out? short answer… NEVER.

SECRET SAUCE : Rico de la Vega “ Impact Theory ”

Working with legends like magician Daniel Garcia, Enrico de la Vega, and Marcus Eddie—my childhood heroes—was a dream come true. At 12 years old, I discovered Daniel’s work and was blown away by his authenticity and creativity. Years later, I had the privilege of collaborating with him, and the lessons I learned were life-changing. He didn’t just make me a better magician; he taught me humility, how to put my ego aside, and how to embrace my weaknesses as much as my strengths.

Human beings will only ever remember a moment if it had an impact on them. TMI: Touch, Move, Inspire. If that moment, good or bad, in any way touches a person, moves them, inspires them, or any combination of the three, then that experience becomes UNFORGETTABLE because it truly made an impact on their life. Everything else is trivial and disappears in the background. If we can create even just one impactful moment for a person, it becomes impossible for them to forget us. We become immortal.

What aired on TV wasn’t the Big Trick Energy we had envisioned, but the process of creating it was transformative. It reminded me why I fell in love with magic in the first place. And while Hollywood may have turned our dream into something we didn’t recognize, the friendships, lessons, and sheer joy of creating something new made it all worthwhile.
